The lecture we had today was taken by Kaye and was focused around the creation of a Mission Statement.
At first I felt a little apprehensive when given the task, as I've done previous work on creating movies and knew how to do it. But I was proven wrong, as she passed out sheets with boxes to fill in that were:
- Story / Game / Film Title
- Main Theme / Genre / Running Time
- Target Audience
- Story Outline
- Cast of Characters
- Why does the protagonist want to do this at all?
We then, as a collective in the lecture theatre, chose between four options given to us, between a book, a TV show, a Film, or a game. Of course, as we are adults and thus more mature than the average student, we opted for the children's animated movie, which was How To Train Your Dragon.
I hadn't actually seen the movie, so had to rely on Steffi to let me know what it was about, and through this I feel I could give a fairly unbiased opinion on what goes on in it.
We filled in thedifferent boxes, and came up with our own mission statement for the film. Ours was as follows:
Overall I found the lecture to be extremely useful, and thoroughly enjoyed both the topic and interactive elements implimented within, intending fully to use them within my work for Narrative Principles."How to Train Your Dragon is an animated, family film centered around adventure, acceptance, and finding yourself in a world stuck in its ways. Join Hiccup and Toothless as theyform an intense friendship, learn to fly, and change a few minds along the way."

(1pm-3pm)
Today's session was solely spent on planning and bringing together the bits we needed to bring together. I filled in the storyboard for our rooftop scene, while both myself and Steffi contributed to the spider diagram of ideas we could use within our story, getting the various things we'd discussed down onto a file in Microsoft Visio. Find this below with the storyboard I filled in:
Other than this, not much was done other than adding more reference imagery to our pinterest boards, and more research. I found this session extremely helpful, and a good refresher as far as what comprises the production process of a story.
